The provider needs the real occupancy and animal details before selecting placement, product or timing. A dog, cat, bird, aquarium, reptile or invertebrate enclosure may create different exposure routes. Mention medical or veterinary concerns without expecting the pest provider to diagnose them.

How should children’s and animal items be prepared?

Follow the service-specific checklist for toys, bedding, food, dishes, cages and aquariums. Remove or protect only what the written instruction requires, and avoid carrying potentially infested items into clean rooms. Keep products in their original containers and out of reach.

Who should be present during pest control?

Only people required for access and agreed by the service plan should enter the work boundary. Children and animals must not approach application equipment, traps, bait, treated surfaces or open products. For businesses and shared buildings, control the route used by staff, residents and visitors.

• Do not allow a child or pet to watch from inside the treatment boundary.
• Keep animal carriers, leads and secure transport ready when removal is required.
• Prevent access through balconies, neighboring rooms, gardens or shared corridors.
• Do not move or open bait stations, traps or equipment during service.
• Tell the technician immediately if an occupant or animal unexpectedly enters.

When may children and pets return?

Return only after the treatment-specific label condition and written instruction have been met. A generic time is not reliable. Confirm whether ventilation, drying, cleaning or equipment checks are required and whether some stations or residual zones remain restricted after the room reopens.

Can household pest products be used on pets?

No household or property pesticide should be applied to an animal unless its label specifically authorizes that species and use. Flea and tick products require veterinary or product-specific guidance, and some dog products can be dangerous to cats or other animals.

• Ask a veterinarian which flea or tick prevention is appropriate for the animal.
• Never divide, combine or transfer products between species.
• Keep property pesticides away from feed, bowls, litter and animal bedding.
• Retain the original label and packaging in case advice is needed.
• Monitor animals after any authorized product and use the label’s adverse-event route.

What should happen if exposure is suspected?

Move away from the source when it is safe, prevent additional contact, and use the exact product label’s first-aid and emergency information. Contact an appropriate medical professional or veterinarian; provide the product name, label, time, route and symptoms.
