When should a wasp or hornet nest be assessed?
Assessment is appropriate when repeated traffic enters one opening, an active paper nest is visible, stinging insects use a ground cavity, or activity occurs beside doors, balconies, work areas or public routes. Keep a safe distance and record the location without climbing or opening the structure.
- Repeated insects entering the same wall, roof, shutter, soil or service opening.
- An active nest near a doorway, balcony, terrace, workplace or children’s play area.
- A concealed nest suspected from concentrated traffic at one gap.
- A previous attempt increased activity or left an inaccessible opening.
- A person at the property has a known serious sting allergy.
What can the assessment and service include?
The scope may include insect identification, safe observation of flight paths, access review, treatment of a confirmed suitable nest and removal of accessible inactive material when appropriate. The method is not selected until the nest, substrate and product instructions are known.
How is a wasp-nest request handled?
The first review uses photographs, location, activity and access information. A site check confirms the target and working position. Only then can a suitable treatment, removal step or referral be agreed. Follow-up depends on the nest type, access and observed activity.
Remote triage
Review wide and close photographs, traffic pattern, height, property use and allergy information.
Site assessment
Confirm the insect, active entrance, structural limits and a protected working area.
Agreed control
Use only a suitable label-led method and explain the specific restrictions and next observation step.
How should the property be prepared?
Keep people and pets away, close nearby windows from inside when this can be done safely, and provide photographs from ground level or another protected surface. Explain whether the nest is near food, ventilation, electricity, shared property or a public route.
- Do not block the entrance or insert objects into a wall, roof or soil cavity.
- Do not climb ladders, lean from windows or stand below an active nest for photographs.
- Tell us about allergies, children, pets, customers and operating restrictions.
- Share previous sprays, smoke, fire, water or physical removal attempts.
- Arrange permissions for shared façades, roofs or common areas.
If a sting causes breathing difficulty, facial or throat swelling, collapse or another severe reaction, seek emergency medical help.
Safety boundary
Do not disturb an active nest
An active nest can release multiple defensive insects. DIY spraying, burning, flooding, striking or sealing may increase exposure and move activity into the building. The service does not include medical care, structural opening, electrical work, rope access or guaranteed bee relocation.
- No pesticide or treatment is selected from a photograph alone.
- Height work proceeds only when suitable protected access is available.
- Unknown bees and pollinators require identification before control is considered.
- Concealed nests may require separate building access by an appropriate trade.
- An old empty nest does not by itself require chemical treatment.
Never use fire, petrol, improvised chemicals or an unlabeled product on a nest.
What determines the wasp-nest removal quote?
Wasp and hornet work is priced by quote. The insect, nest position, activity, height, safe access, property use, neighboring exposure, equipment and any separate removal or access work affect the final scope.
